The collection contains preparations of the central nervous system in several insect species stained by retro- and anterograde transport of nickel chloride and the whole-mount preparations of hair plates and dome-shaped sensilla in the appendages of insects. The collection includes whole-mount preparations of the cerebral and thoracic ganglia of the last instar nymph and imago of the brown hawker Aeshna grandis, the imago of the four-spotted chaser Libellula quadrimaculata, the imagoes of the cave cricket Phaeophilacris bredoides and of the cockroaches Periplaneta americana and Gromphadorhina portentosa. The preparations show neurons and nerve fibers that connect different portions of the insect nervous system. The collection also includes whole-mount preparations of appendages of several dragonfly species: nymphs and imagoes of the brown hawker Aeshna grandis, imago of the four-spotted chaser Libellula quadrimaculata, imagoes of the yellow-winged darter Sympetrum flaveolum, and dragonflies of the family Coenagrionidae: Lestes sp. Each insect species is represented by about 30 preparations of the central nervous system and 20 preparations of appendages with sensory structures.
The preparations are kept at the Laboratory of Comparative Physiology of Sensory Systems of the I.M. Sechenov Institute of Evolutionary Physiology and Biochemistry RAS.
