Infusorian Stentoropsis barbi an intestinal parasite of barbels in waters of Middle Asia. P. 393-398.
A little-studied species, Stentoropsis barbi, is described. The dependence of the barbel's infestation by this infusorian on the feeding on higher aquatic plants is analysed.

On the effect of high flood on parasite fauna of fishes from the basin of the Kuban river. P. 399-405.
The paper deals with the effect of disastrous high floods on parasites of fishes from the middle part of the Kuban river, which cause a sharp decrease in the number of parasite, and with a process of gradual reestablishment of parasite fauna of fishes after high flood.

Helminth fauna of mustelids from Altai Mountains. P. 406-410.
571 species of mustelids (sabels, martens etc.) were examined in which 17 species of helminths were found. Changes in the invasion of sables depending on their age and sex were considered.

Karyology of some species of Diplozoon. P. 411-414.
Karyotypes of four species of Diplozoon are given. Three of them, parasites of Abramis ballerus (L.), A. sapa (Pall.) and Vimba vimba (L.), have 2n=14, while parasite of Rutilus rutilus caspicus (Jakowlew) — 2n=10. On the basis of karyological studies the author arrived at conclusions that the parasite of the latter is a distinct species. Results of the present and future studies are discussed. A scheme of a possible way of the evolution of karyotypes in the genus Diplozoon is suggested.

New species of monogeneans from bony fishes of Patagon shelf. P. 415-419.
Two new species of monogeneans of the families Mazocraeidae and Capsalidae: Neogrubea soni sp. nov. and Megalocotyloides patagonicus sp. nov. — were found on gills of bony fishes of Patagon shelf. The paper contains the description of the worms and their figures.

Resistance of cercaria of Diplostomum spathaceum to ultra-violet irradiation. P. 420-425.
The paper contains results of laboratory experiments on the resistance of cercaria of Diplostomum spathaceum to ultra-violet irradiation. Lethal and sublethal doses were established. Expenses were calculated for irradiation of young trouts during the desinfection of water by ultra-violet rays. The ultraviolet irradiation treatment was recommended as a protective measure against diplostomosis in youngs of valuable species of fishes.

On the fauna of trematodes of waders from various regions of the Soviet Union. P. 426-430.
The author examined 1354 specimens of waders of 48 species (Charadriiformes) from various regions of the Soviet Union (the boards of Barents, White, Baltic, Black, Okhotsk, Japan Seas and mouth of the Lena river) (table 1). In each region the fauna of trematodes is very rich in species but each region is characterized by the predominance of one or several families (table 2). These families are, as a rule, represented by a considerable number of species and show a high infestation intensity. In same species of waders from different regions the fauna of trematodes is rather diverse.

On biology of Eurytrema pancreaticum (Jonson, 1889) from Upper Priamurje. P. 431-435.
Trematode Eurytrema pancreaticum (Jonson, 1889) was found to be a causative agent of eurytremiosis of domestic ruminants in Upper Priamurje. Under natural conditions eggs of the parasite remain viable from April to November. Intermediate hosts of the parasite are terrestrial mollusks, Bradybaena arcasiana Cr. et Deb. and В. dieckmanni Mouss., additional hosts are crickets, Conocephalus percaudatus B.-Bienko and C. chinensis Redt. Larval stages of E. pancreaticum develop in mollusks 12 to 23 months, in crickets — 1.5— 2 months. In definitive hosts the development of the parasite to adult lasts 87 to 89 days.

On the species of the Ixodes persulcatus group (Parasitiformes, Ixodidae). IV. New data in the ecology of I. pavlovskyi Pom. from East Kazakhstan. P. 436-439.
In the south-western Altai Ixodes pavlovskyi is spread throughout the forest vertical zone (fir with admixture of small-leaved cultures). Sporadically the ticks are encountered in wet biotopes of the steppe zone (foot hills). In the lower portion of the forest zone with well developed underbrush and herbage and abundant vertebrates I. pavlovskyi does not give in number to I. persulcatus. Both species are mostly abundant in forests on norhtern slopes where the activity of hungry adults reaches its reak in the second half of June (fig. 1). Adult ticks of I. pavlovskyi parasitizes usually birds. 11 species are reported as hosts, the principal host is the fieldfare Turdus pilaris L. Preimaginal phases of I. pavlouskyi are parasites of 27 species of small mammals and birds (see report II). Some cases were registered of I. pavlovskyi's sucking man.

The fur mite of the genus Lynxacarus (Sarcoptiformes, Listrophoridae). P. 440-450.
Lynxacarus morlani from the lynx was briefly described by Radford, 1951, as a species of a new genus. On the basis of the first description and two paratypes received from Radford a more detailed description of this species is given. Lynxacarus dubinini H. Dub., sp. n. from the Russian desman (Desmana moschata L.) is described. The genus Lynxacarus is close to Listrophorus and was separated due to more enlarged hind legs. Lynxacarus is also characterized by the presence of anterior and posterior propodosomal shields which are in contact and cover almost the whole dorsal propodosoma; two pairs of sternal clamps serve for attachment; the presence of a horseshoe-shaped sclerite around male's aedeagus.

On the digestion in fleas Xenopsylla cheopis Roths. (Aphaniptera, Pulicidae). P. 451-460.
On the basis of hystological and hystochemical studies of changes in the epithelium of the midgut and engorged blood the digestive process in Xenopsylla cheopis can be subdivided into 3 stages. 1-st stage is limited by the period from the completion of bloodsucking to the decay of vast majority of blood cells. At 2-nd stage the content of the intestine is completely digested and absorbed. 3-rd stage is the end of the digestive process when the midgut content is transformed into a final product of blood digestion, haematin, and nutritive inclusions, fat in particular, disappear from epithelial cells. The duration of 1-st stage in most specimens at 22—24° С is 3—3.5 hours, 2-nd stage lasts 8 to 10 hours after feeding and then 3-rd stage begins. The characters of 3-rd final stage of the digestion are preserved for several days.

Description of larvae of midges of the genus Culicoides (Ceratopogonidae). P. 461-467.
The paper contains original descriptions of 8 species of larvae of Culicoides: C. subfascipennis Kieff., C. machardyi Camp. a. Pelh.-Clin., C. manchuriensis Ток., С. dispersus Guts. a. Smat., C. saevus Kieff., C. sinanoensis Ток., С. fagineus Edw., C. dendrophilus Amos. The principal morphological characters of iarvae of the above species are as follows: size of head, head length index «Н. R.» (Kettle a. Lawson, 1952), head width index — HWI (Glukhova, 1968a and b), sclerotization of head capsule; chaetotaxy of head: location of setae "о" in relation to subgenal ring, size of bases of these setae; base of seta "s", ratio between length and size of bases of setae "p", sensitive fossae "j" and "z". Consideration was given to sensitive formations on the labium. The structure of hypostome, labrum and epipharynx was also used. Pigmentation of body was taken into account.

On the fauna and ecology of midges of the genus Culicoides (Diptera, Ceratopagonidae) from southern regions of the Komi ASSR. P. 468-471.
19 species of the genus Culicoides were recorded from the subzone of middle taiga of the Komi ASSR. The most abundant species are C. pulicaris, C. grisescens, and the groups obsoletus and fascipennis. Breeding places of 10 species were found. The fligth and attacking period of midges were from May to October. Two peaks of the number were registered: one — in the end of June and the other — early in August. The list of species is given prefering man, domestic animals and small passerines in the period of their nesting. Day resting-places of 8 species were found.

Serological reactions in guinea-pigs to larvae and larval extracts of Oedemagena tarandi L. and Hypoderma bovis De Geer. P. 472-477.
Starting with third instar larvae from reindeer and cattle, adult flies of Oedemagena tarandi L. and Hypoderma bovis De Geer were cultured and mated in the laboratory. Eggs were laid and developed succesfully. First instar larvae were implanted subcutaneously into guinea-pigs. Haemolympb from the third instar larvae was injected into other guinea-pigs. Sera from injected, but not implanted, guinea-pigs reacted against third instar haemolymph, and there was a strong cross-reaction between O. tarandi and H. bovis, indicating a close phylogenetic affinity. No serological cross-reaction was obtained with serum from a guinea-pig injected with haemolymph from larvae of Cephenomyia trompe M. None of the implanted larvae survived more than about one week. Possible reasons for this are dicussed in the light of previous studies on the implantation of other first instar larvae into rabbits.
