Karyology is an intensively
evolving field of biology. In its development, both karyology and
karyosystematics have gone through some turning points connected, first
of all, with appearing and applying of new methods of chromosome
analysis. Essential successes achieved in karyosystematics of
invertebrate animals have been demonstrated during three successive
Conferences on the Karyosystematics of the Invertebrates taken place in
Leningrad (1976), Cheboksary (1991) and Moscow (1997).
On August 28–30, 2006 the IV International Conference on the
Karyosystematics of the Invertebrates will take place at the Zoological
Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg, Russia).
We hope that the Conference will demonstrate the progress and the high
level of modern karyology of invertebrates. The reports announced for
the Conference deal with the most important aspects of the general
cytogenetics and of karyosystematics of various groups of insects,
molluscs, worms and coelenterates. In the reports the results of
applying novel methods, including those of molecular cytogenetics, and
potentialities of using of karyological and cytogenetical data in
taxomomy and phylogeny of taxa of different ranks will be presented. Our
experience shows the significance of such conferences for the exchange
of scientific information and the establishment of friendly and
scientific contacts between scientists of different regions and
countries.
The First All-Union Conference on the Karyosystematics of the
Invertebrates took place on November 18–20, 1976 at the Zoological
Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Leningrad). Sixty-five
karyologists from the academic institutes and institutions of higher
education of Moscow, Leningrad, Tomsk, Saratov, Kazan, Irkutsk,
Novosibirsk, Volgograd, Barnaul, Ivanov, Voronezh, Riga and Yerevan took
part in the Conference. Theoretical reports and reports dealing with
particular karyological aspects of many groups of insects and warms were
presented. Based on the reports of the Conference, two volumes of
proceedings were published entitled “Karyosystematics of the
Invertebrate Animals I” (1979) and “New Data on Karyosystematics of
Diptera” (1980).
The Second International Conference on Karyosystematics of the
Invertebrate Animals took place in Cheboksary on 24–27 September, 1991.
At this conference 43 karyologists from Russia (St.Petersburg, Moscow,
Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Cheboksary, Saratov, Ivanovo), Armenia, Lithuania,
Poland, Bulgaria took part. The reports dealing with the
karyosystematics of different groups of insects, worms and parasitic
flagellates were read. Based on the reports of the Conference a volume
of proceedings “Karyosystematics of the Invertebrate Animals II” was
published (1993).
The Third International Conference on Karyosystematics of the
Invertebrate Animals took place in Moscow, on 21–23 January, 1997.
Forty-four experts from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Saratov,
Ivanov, Pskov, Cheboksary, Irkutsk, Vladivostok, Yerevan, Krakow and
Sofia presented reports on the general karyology and karyosystematics of
insects, mollusks and turbellarians. Based on the reports of the
Conference a volume of proceedings “Karyosystematics of the Invertebrate
Animals III” was published (1996).
The Fourth International Conference on Karyosystematics of the
Invertebrate Animals is to be held on August 28–30, 2006 at the
Zoological institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg).
In the Conference leading experts, young scientists and post-graduate
students of research institutes, museums and universities of Russia (St.Petersburg,
Moscow, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Irkutsk, Saratov and other cities), of the
Ukraine, Armenia, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, Finland, Italy, the Great
Britain and Belgium are planning to take part. Reports on general
cytogenetics and on cytogenetics and karyosystematics of different
groups of invertebrates (insects, molluscs, worms, coelenterates) will
be read. Data showing a modern condition karyosystematics of certain (separate)
groups, methodical level of researches, advances of fundamental and
applied karyology of invertebrates will be presented in oral reports and
posters. The Organizing Committee of the conference is planning to
publish a book of abstracts of the conference and a volume of scientific
papers entitled “Karyosystematics of the Invertebrate Animals IV”. |
