Member of the Scientific Council of the Zoological Institute (2000-2010). Member of the Scientific Council of the Biological faculty of the Petersburg University for defending Doctoral theses (from 1989). Chief Curator of the fund collections of the Zoological Institute (1993-2007).The head of the Department of Ornithology since 1978.

The main field of scientific activities
is systematics, life history and zoogeography of birds, mainly Palearctic Passerines.
