Деррен Дж. Манн (Darren J. Mann) после завершения школьного образования в 1988 г. поступил в Университет Плимута, где получил образование в области прикладной биологии (1988-1990 гг.). Затем он закончил аспирантуру в Университете Уэлса (University of Wales, College of Cardiff, 1993-1994 гг.) и прошел специализированный курс по зоологической систематике в Университете Амстердама (Amsterdam, ERASMUS course in Systematic Biology), получив сертификат в сентябре 1994 г. Деррен работал в Национальном Музее Уэлса, а сейчас он курирует коллекцию Музея естественной истории Оксфордского университета. Эта коллекция, содержащая большое количество типовых экземпляров по разным группам жуков и насекомых в целом, в течение продолжительного времени оставалась без должного научного обслуживания и поэтому многие исторические экземпляры в ней остаются все еще не опознанными.

Деррен Манн прилагает много усилий к тому, чтобы обеспечить разбор определенных и неопределенных экземпляров. В отличие от прежних лет существования Оксфордского музея, сейчас, благодаря отзывчивости Деррена, экземпляры по многим группам стали доступны. Деррен с энтузиазмом пополняет коллекцию музея новыми материалами, собранными им самим в Великобритании в частых его экскурсиях, а также во время полевых работ во Франции (1992 г.), Гамбии (1997 г.), Португалии (1998 г.), Намибии (1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2002 гг.), Пакистане (2000 г.) и Турции (2001 г.).
