THEY are bad tempered, hungry and distinctly unladylike.

And if scientists are right, an invasion of foreign ladybirds is about to wreak havoc on Britain's native species.

The invaders, harlequin ladybirds, are also less than friendly to humans, with reports of bites across the U.S., where they are also devastating crops and insect populations.

Scientists from Cambridge University have already identified what they believe to be the first harlequin ladybird in Britain.
