C'est avec beaucoup de peine que j'apprends ce matin par Dughal Lindsay la
mort de Sofia. La rencontrer lors des congrès de l'Hydrozoan Society était
pour moi chaque fois source de plaisir.
Je lui avais écrit quelques temps avant celui qui s'est tenu cette année à
Ischia en juin, mais mon message était resté sans réponse et elle me
manquait lorsque j'observais notre sympathique
groupe. Voilà donc un ancien de plus qui s'en est allé ! Triste loi de
notre vie sur terre. J'espère au poins que ce n'était pas dans la douleur,
qu'elle est morte en paix.
Sofia m'a magnifiquement reçue à Saint Pétersbourg en 1996. Elle avait
monté une session "Obelia" au cours de l'EMBS, à laquelle j'ai participé.
Elle avait trouvé pour Elaine Robson et moi
un logement moins cher que l'hôtel, chez son amie Marina, où nous avons
passé une semaine. Elle nous a emmené voir un spectacle de ballets et nous
a reçu à manger chez elle. Ce sont de
magnifiques souvenirs de moments de convivialité avec elle. Nous en avons
partagé quelques trop rares autres lors d'autres workshop de l'Hydrozoan
Society, comme à Porto Cesareo par exemple,
où elle logeait loin de l'hôtel et devait faire le chemin à pied avec
l'une ou l'un d'entre nous.
Pour la Sofia scientifique j'ai un grand respect. Elle avait très
certainement une très forte puissance de travail et sa production est
impressionnante. Elle a beaucoup publié en anglais,
et je sais personnellement combien c'est difficile pour un non anglophone
de naissance.
Pour moi, Sofia c'est aussi sa collection, et partout où je vais de par
le monde je pense à elle lorsque je vois des chouettes car j'ai envie de
lui en acheter. Je penserai toujours à elle,
je le sais, en voyant ces figurines charmantes ou drôles, mais maintenant
il y aura de la tristesse en plus...

Dear colleagues and friends,
these are very sad news. My condolences to her family and friends.
I was lucky meeting her in the AWI and in several hydrozoan mettings,
and I keep as a treasure an exemplar of her Hydrozoan book.
The hydrozoan family is very sad today.
