In 1998, K.A. Grebennikov graduated from Volgograd state pedagogical institute and was employed as a teacher of biology at the secondary school in Volgograd province. Since December 1999, K.A. Grebennikov is a postgraduate student at the Dpt. of Entomology of St. Petersburg University.

Being a graduate student in Volgograd, K.A. Grebennikov started his research on taxonomy, fauna and bionomics of Staphylinidae beetles of Lower Volga bassin. He completed his Ms.Sc. thesis and published few papers on faunistics of Staphylinidae of this area. As a postgraduate student, K.A. Grebennikov continues his studies of staphylinids of Lower Volga bassin (the project towards Ph.D. degree entitled "Fauna and ecology of staphylinid-beetles (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae) of Lower Volga bassin").

K.A. Grebennikov intensively uses the collection of Staphylinidae of Zoological Institute in his studies, he participates in identification and management of this collection.
