History of investigations

The Laboratory of Parasitology of the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences was established in 1930 on the initiative of Evgenii Nikanorovich Pavlovsky, Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The major goal of the laboratory is basic research in morphology, ecology, systematics and fauna of parasitic and blood-sucking ticks, mites and insects. The so-called E. N. Pavlovsky's school of thought in parasitology is based upon his theory of natural focuses of transmissive diseases.

Over 70 years since the establishment of the Laboratory of Parasitology its scientific staff published 41 monographs and defended 13 dissertations for the degree of Dr. of Sciences and 30 dissertations for the degree of Candidat of Sciences.
