Physiological age and sensitivity to DDT of natural populations of Ixodes persulcatus P. Sch. P. 3-11.
An attempt was made to compare changes in the physiological age of the population of Ixodes persulcatus P. Sch. and its sensitivity to DDT. In the first half of the activity season these changes run in parallel, i. e. the decrease in the nutrients store is accompanied by the increasing sensitivity of the ticks. Ticks perished from DDT are normally older than the survived ones. In the second half of the season the physiological age of ticks becomes stable while the sensitivity keeps growing. This discrepancy is apparently due to insufficient criteria used for the estimation of the physiological age in particular to the lack of data on the dynamics of fat reserves, and to dissimilar senescence rate of the cells of intestinal epithelium in various processes of the intestine. The increase of the physiological age of ticks under the effect of DDT solvent, methyl-ethyl ketone, was noted. Some age peculiarities of the investigated population are discussed.

Seasonal variations in the number of gamasid mites in the nests of Microtus arvalis Pall. P. 12-14.
114 nests of Microtus arvalis Pall., in which there were found 49 016 gamasid mites of 41 species, were collected on filtration fields in Odessa and investigated. Among the mites most abundant were parasites of rodents, Haemolaelaps glasgowi (69%) and Hirstionyssus latiscutatus (11.9%). The average annual index of abundance of all gamasid species in nests was 429; autumn maximum — 739 and summer minimum — 184. Females (77%) were dominant in collections. 11 species are first reported for the south-eastern Ukraine.

The description of one new and one rare for the USSR species of gamasid mites. P. 15-21.
A description is given of one new and one rare for the USSR species of gamasid mites, Myonyssus montanus Furman et Tipton, 1955 and Hirstionyssus ochotonae Lange et Petrova, 1958. The species were collected in the mountains of Zailijsky Ala-Tau and Karzhantau, the spirs of the West Tien-Shan.

A new species of midges, Gulicoides gluchovae sp. n., from Transbaikalia. P. 27-29.
A new species of midges, Culicoides gluchovae sp. n., was found in the vicinity of Lake Gusinoe of Buryat ASSR. Morphology of the female and male is described.

The biology of Hybomitra lapponica (Wahlbg.) (Diptera, Tabanidae) in the south of the Far East of the USSR. P. 30-38.
The paper presents results of many years studies of the biology of a mass Siberian taiga species from the south of the Primorje Territory. The data are given on changes in the seasonal number of this species during some years, on the gonotrophic cycle and fecundity and developmental rates from egg to imago.

Nothobomolochus chilensis sp. n. (Copepoda, Cyclopoida), a new species of parasitic crustaceans form Scomberesox saurus (Walbaum). P. 39-44.
A new species of parasitic crustaceans, Nothobomolochus chilensis sp. n., is described. The species was found on the gills of Scomberesox saurus (Wahlbaum) from the south-eastern Pacific.

New species of monogeneans from fishes of Azerbaijan. P. 45-48.
Four species of monogeneans, Dactylogyrus araxicus sp. n., D. gracilis sp. n., D. kertdalanicus sp. n., D. akaraicus sp. n., are described from fishes of the Kura basin and Talysh rivers.

Preservation of the invasion ability of larvae of Metastrongylus elongatus in intermediate hosts — rainworms. P. 49-52.
Larvae of Metastrongylus elongatus are preserved in their intermediate host Eisenia foetida (Lumbricidae) up to 7 years being in a state of temporary rest. During this period they do not lose the ability to complete their life cycle in the definitive host. This increases the possibility of the parasite to meet its definitive host and favours its preservation in nature.

On morphology of Philometroides dogieli sp. n. (Nematoda, Philometridae) from the fins of Elopichthys bambusa (Richardson). P. 53-56.
The female of Philometroides dogieli sp. n. is described. The nematode was found in 1967 under the skin between the rays of the fins in Elopichthys bambusa (Richardson) from the Amur.

Four new species of nematodes (Nematoda, Sphaerulariidae) from bark beetles (Coleoptera, Ipidae). P. 57-62.
Four new species of nematodes were found in bark beetles, pests of Picea excelsa, in the Moscow district. They are as follows: Neoparasitylenchus caveocaudatus sp. n. (in Dryocoetes autographus Ratz.), N. raphidophorus sp. n. (in Crypturgus cinereus Herbst.), N. brachydorus sp. n. (in Crypturgus hispidulus Thorns.) and Allantonema bathycapsulata sp. n. (in C. hispidulus). Descriptions and figures of new taxons are given.

On genetic-physiological compatibility of various forms of stem eelworms. IV. The crossing of the phlox eelworm with other stem eelworms. P. 63-69.
There were obtained reciprocal hybrids between the phlox eel worm and those of onion, strawberry, red clover, narcissus, parsnip and parsley. One-sided reproductive isolation of the phlox eelworm from other members of the collective species Ditylenchus dipsaci was established. Combinations with the phlox eelworm females yielded hybrid populations normal in number and structure but containing a higher per cent of abnormal individuals as compared to control ones. In combinations with males hybrid populations did not develop, as a rule, and hybrid progeny virtually proved to be non-viable. A taxonomic position of the phlox eelworm is discussed.

Changes in the amount of lecithin in the blood serum of chicknens under experimental coccidiosis (Eimeria tenella, E. mitis). P. 70-73.
20, 40 and 60-days old chickens were infected with coccidians Eimeria tenella and E. mitis (5.000 oocysts per one chicken) and then lecithin of the blood serum was determined. It was established that the amount of lecithin in the blood serum increases on the 3d day of the infection and decreases on the 5th to 10th day. In 20 days the amount of lecithin is restored to that of control chickens. The degree of biochemical changes depends on pathogenic properties of various species of parasites and age of infected chickens.

New species of myxosporidians (Myxosporidia, Cnidosporidia) from fishes of the Wasjugan basin. P. 74-76.
Three new species of myxosporidians from fishes of the Wasjugan basin (the left-bank tributary of the Ob river) are described as follows: Sphaerospora pectinacia sp. n., Wardia schulmani sp. n. and Myxobolus wasjugani sp. n. Representatives of the genus Wardia are first noted for the waterbodies of Eurasia.

Virulence and pathogenicity factors of the Leishmania strains from the Nizhnesurkhandarja nidus of cutaneous leishmaniasis. P. 77-81.
13 strains of Leishmania isolated from sick persons in the town of Termez were studied. They are identified as highly virulent strains of Leishmania tropica var. major. The determination of the pathogenicity factors has shown that all the above strains do not contain hyaluronidase, only 9 of them (69.2%) contain fibrinolysin and 10 strains (76.9%) contain plasmocoagulase. Duran-Reynals factor and dermonecrotoxis properties were discovered in all the strains. The degree of their expression increases with an increasing dose of investigated parasites. Termez strains can be successfully used for the preparation of inoculation material against cutaneous leishmaniasis.

The content of vitamin A fractions in tissues of Ascaris suum. P. 83-84.
Studies were carried out of the vitamin A content in tissues of Ascaris suum. In the intestine and genital system of the females vitamin A was found as its active form, vitamin A-alcohol. In the cutaneous-muscular tissue and cavity fluid vitamin A was found as its reserve form, vitamin A-ether. In the genital system of the males the active form of vitamin A was mainly discovered. It is suggested that in ascarids as well as in higher animals vitamin A is necessary for protein synthesis.
