Department Website (In Russian)

Department of orthopteroid insects unites specielists on insects of the infraorder Polyneoptera, or Orthopteroidea in a wide sense, including othopteran themselves, and also Blattodea, earwigs, and so called “small orders”. In different years, the staff of the department was represented by such known entomologists as G.G. Jakobson (1871–1926), N.N. Adelung (1857–1917), G.Ya. Bei-Bienko (1903–1971), and L.L. Mishchenko (1909–1989). At present, objects of conducted investigations include mainly orthopterans, studied by the head of the department A.V. Gorokhov, and also Blattodea, studied by L.N. Anisyutkin. Both modern and fossil representatives of these insects in the volume of world fauna are examined with the use of classical morphological methods, supplemented with modern molecular methods. Special attention is devoted to processes and regularities of the evolution, and also problems of the formation of modern fauna of the studied insects.
