A.P. Semenov was born in 1866. In 1885 he finished the 8th St. Petersburg gymnasium, after which he entered the Natural History Department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of St. Petersburg University. In 1888 he travelled through the Transcaspian region and Western Turkestan, where he studied entomological fauna. In spring 1889 he visited the Transcaspian Region for a second time. Since 1890 A.P. Semenov began working at the Zoological Museum of the Imperial Academy of Sciences; beginning from autumn 1890 he was enrolled as a supernumerary curator at the Entomology Department. He published a number of papers in entomology in "Horae Societatis Entomologicae", "Wiener Entomologische Zeitung" and "Bulletin de la Societe Imperiale des Naturalister de Moscou". A.P. Semenov participated in examining collections of Potatnin and Prjewalski. The little known photograph of A.P. Semenov made in the late 1930s, shows him in his mature years.
