Research interests:

 

Systematics, phylogeny, biology, and evolution of Staphylinidae of the world; current emphasis on Quediina (Staphylinini) of the world and especially of the southern hemisphere temperate zone groups;

faunal surveys: Staphylinidae of the Caucasus and Palaearctic region;

Staphylinidae as a model for biogeographic research.

2001 – Scientific Award from Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) for conducting research work during 6 months in Germany [was not used because of the overlap with the received Post Doctoral position in the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, USA].

 

2001 – Fellowship grant from the International Organization for the promotion of co-operation with scientists from the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union (INTAS).

 

1995 – personal postgraduate fellowship (ISSEP), from the NSF, USA granted to support the research project towards Ph. D. degree, implemented in Russia.

 

Research Grants and Scholarships:

 

2001-2003 - partnership in research long-term grant for the team of coleopterists of Zoological Institute from the Russian Foundation of Basic Research for the study of the coleopteran fauna of the arid landscapes of the Palaearctic region. Project leader Dr. Prof. G. Medvedev.

 

2001 – scholarship from the Robert O. Bass Visiting Scientist Fund in the Field Museum of Natural History (FMNH) for 3 weeks long visit. February, 2001.

 

1998 - 2000 – partnership in research long-term grant for the team of coleopterists of Zoological Institute from the Russian Foundation of Basic Research for the study of the coleopteran fauna of the mountainous systems of extra-tropical Asia. Project leader Dr. Prof. G. Medvedev.

 

1998 – 2000 – partnership in collection management grant for scientific collections of Zoological Institute Russian Academy of Sciences from the Science and Technology Ministry of the Russian Federation.

 

2000 – visiting grant from the Austrian Government for 3 weeks long visit to the Museum of Natural History in Vienna. December 2000.

 

2000 – visiting grant from the Austrian Government for a month long visit to the Museum of Natural History in Vienna. May-June 2000.

 

1999 – visiting grant from the Field Museum of Natural History (FMNH: Chicago, USA), granted in November 1999 for 3 weeks long research visit to the FMNH in March, 2000.

2000 – present: visits to study Staphylinidae collections of the museums and universities worldwide (Austria: Vienna Museum of Natural History; Belgium: Royal Institute of Natural Sciences, Brussels; Royal Museum of Central Africa, Tervuren; Chile: National Museum of Natural History, Santiago; France: National Museum of Natural History, Paris; Germany: State Museum of Natural History, Stuttgart; Russia: Moscow Zoological Museum of Moscow University, Moscow; Slovakia: Slovak National Museum, Bratislava; Switzerland: Museum of Natural History, Geneva; Ukraine: Institute of Zoology, Kiev; USA: American Museum of Natural History, New York; University of Nebraska State Museum; Snow Entomological Collections, Natural History Museum, University of Kansas, Lawrence.

1997 – 2002: assistance for Dr. Prof. G.S. Medvedev in management of the collection of Staphylinidae, Zoological Institute Russian Academy of Science; arranging loans of Staphylinidae for taxonomists worldwide; constant identification service (mainly Staphylinidae of European Russia and adjacent territories) for entomologists and students from various parts of Russia.

 

2000 – rearranging of the collection of Quedius (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae) in the Natural History Museum in Vienna (visiting work).

 

June 1998 – identification of Coleoptera in the collection at the University of Ataturk (Erzurum, Turkey).

Teaching experience:

 

2003 – one lecture and one lab on Coleoptera (Diversity and Evolution) for the undergraduates in the University of Chicago.

 

1999 (2 months) – part time Lecturer on Invertebrate Zoology and Entomology in Biological College of St. Petersburg State University.

 

1994 (July) – Instructor and Lecturer of the field practice in Entomology for graduate students. St. Petersburg State University, (field station “Les na Vorskle” in Belgorod region, Russia).
