On this page we will place brief reports on the most interesting publications on systematics and faunal studies of beetles. In general these will be news concerning the order as a whole and its separate families. However information on revisions of large genera and on other publications that are of interest to a wide audience of specialists may be also included here. An excellent collection of papers by carabidologists dedicated to the memory of Oleg Leonidovich Kryzhanovsky was published in Krasnodar.
Advances in Carabidology (Papers Dedicated to the Memory of Prof. Dr. Oleg L. Kryzhanovskij).
Krasnodar: MUISO Publishers, 1999. 473 pp.
In Krasnodar MUISO Publishers issued a splendidly formatted collection of papers of leading carabidologists of the world. The volume begins with an article dedicated to the memory of Oleg Kryzhanovsky (authors G.S. Medvedev, B.A. Korotyaev, A.S. Zamotajlov). It is followed by 26 original works performed on a high level. Among those are general and regional revisions of a number of genera of ground beetles (Cribrodyschirius, Deltomerodes, Lophoglossus, Oedesis, Leistus, Loricera, Calathus), descriptions of new genera (Cameroniola, Nannoryctes, Caucasaphaenops, Selenotichnus) and of several dozens of new species. Many authors (I. Belousov, F. Hieke, I. Kabak, B. Kataev, K. Makarov, A. Matalin, A. Zamotajlov) have their personal home pages in our Website. The last in the collection is a carefully compiled complete list of published works by O.L. Kryzhanovsky (compiled by A.K. Chistyakova, B.M. Kataev, and A.S. Zamotajlov).

New key for the identification of beetle families of the suborder Archostemata (conclusion of the story of a "living fossil").
A.G. Kirejtshuk. 1999. Sikhotealinia zhiltzovae (Lafer, 1996) -- recent representative of the Jurassic coleopterous fauna (Coleoptera, Archostemata, Jurodidae) // Zoological Sessions (Annual Reports 1998). Eds. A.Y. Ryss & S.Y. Sinev. - Proceed. Zool. Inst. Russ. Ac. Sci., vol. 281, p. 21-26
A new volume of proceedings of the annual report session of the Zoological Institute has been published. The volume came out in February 2000, but output data indicate 1999. Of particular interest to coleopterists is the paper by A.G. Kireichuk completing the many year history of description and defining of the taxonomic position of the unusual Far Eastern beetle Sikhotealinia zhiltzovae Lafer. At the end of the paper a new key to 6 families of the suborder Archostemata is given. For the present one of the families, Triadocupedidae Ponomarenko, is only known from paleontological material.

Important changes in the rules of publication of taxonomic works.
International Comission on Zoological Nomenclature. International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. 1999. xxix + 306 p.
The fourth edition of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature has entered into force from 1 January 2000. A member of the International Commission of Nomenclature Prof. I.M. Kerzhner has kindly agreed to prepare for our site a brief review of the changes in the new edition; these changes concern all coleopterists publishing descriptions of new taxa and other nomenclature works.
