One of the best sites on the Internet on scarabs was created in the University of Nebraska State Museum (USA). The group of scarabeidologists that has prepared and is permanently updating this site is headed by the well known specialist Prof. Brett C. Ratcliffe. The classification of the superfamily Scarabaeoidea and the family Scarabaeidae accepted by him for the site is based upon the widely spread (Lawrence, Newton, 1995), system of Lawrence and Newton (1995), however, there are some deviations. For the majority of families and subfamilies excellent pictures of typical representatives are given on the site. These pictures are given according to standard size, but are placed on different pages and it is impossible to see all of them at the same time. I decided to illustrate to our visitors the diversity of scarabs and represent graphically one of the views of the system of this large group, which is of great applied importance. I borrowed the missing pictures from CD-ROM "The Beetles of the World", from our disc "Wir bestimmen Kaefer" ("The World of Beetles") and from several old publications. Because our site is more frequently visited by inhabitants of the Palearctic Region I replaced images of nearctic species, by those of European species more usual for us. The page only includes subfamilies of those families for which division of the subfamily is given on the site of B. Ratcliffe. All pictures of representatives of subufamilies can be enlarged.
